DESCRIPTION
Guide to the Reptiles of the Eastern Palearctic by Nikolai N. Szczerbak

The book's scope is the entire reptile fauna of the former Soviet Union. Its contents include a brief geographical review, zoogeographical division of this region, & 161 species sketches. For each species the information includes general distribution, type locality, reproduction & growth rates, variation (ontogenetic, sexual, geographic), ecology & behavior (density, number, daily & seasonal activity patterns, temperature relations, shedding, diet), status, taxonomic notes, descriptions of subspecies, & references to relevant literature. The book is extensively illustrated & includes color photographs of Eastern Palearctic reptiles & point locality distribution maps for each species. Keys are provided to orders, suborders, families, genera, & species. The list of references contains almost 200 titles.

About the Author.
Nikolai N. Szczerbal (1927-1998) was an Academician and Professor at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and Director of the academy's Zoological Museum in Kiev. He was one of the leading herpetologists of the former Soviet Union & authored more than 250 titles on the systematics, distribution, & ecology of reptiles and amphibians. Among these are 28 books & monographs.
260 pages.

This hardcover Krieger book is new and has never been read. This book is still in the publishers shrinkwrap! It retails for $73.50.
